Here is a little back story to bring the blog up to date with how this started and what is going on now since I just started the blog!
-About a year ago my boyfriend and I started the search for our first home together. We searched online, drove around our city, and the surrounding areas searching for available homes for about 6 months. At that time, our area had a really hot sellers market, and the for sale houses were priced according regardless of whether or not they needed major renovations/updates. That is when we decided to venture into looking at new construction (even
though previously it was only wishful thinking.)
-June 2013 is when our search was getting really exhausting and not many new houses were popping up in the market. We were getting very frustrated because I think we both knew that we wanted something new and easy to move into, yet we were looking at homes that were older and over-priced that definitely needed some sort of updating whether it be all new flooring or all new utilities. About this time is when we started to seriously consider new construction.
-July 2013 is when we finally decided to just go with what we both knew would be the best option for us and signed a contract to build our first house in an up and coming subdivision in our community. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that we could build a brand new house that we liked with features that we chose for a comparable price that otherwise could have bought us an older resale house. Around that time is when the mortgage rates started to go up so we knew we wanted to make a decision quickly at that point.
-When we signed our contract the subdivision developers were having a monthly promotion that allowed us to get a beautiful lot that we wanted with a wooded backdrop so we will not have any neighbors behind us!
*Stay tuned for more updates soon on what is going on with our build and the DIY projects my mom and I have done to prepare!*
"Decorate Purposefully, DIY Frugally" is my motto for helping turn our newly constructed house into a home. This is where I document the home projects my fiance and I are tackling along with our fur-baby bulldog!
