I have definitely jumped on the shiplap/ wood plank wall bandwagon, and finally have one to call my own! I love how crisp white painted planks look on walls and ceilings. I decided we needed to plank something in our house and figured the small hallway wall between the laundry room and powder room was the perfect candidate! This was a super easy super cheap project that probably took us about 5 hours give or take (including a trip to Home Depot). I think it helped make this spot in the hallway look finished. I use to have a small cabinet in the corner next to the wall that I now moved to a corner in the dining room where it is much more functional. Here is the beauty:
We still need to add some trim to the corners and crown moulding at the top. I also want to paint the hall walls the same color as the kitchen, Grant Beige by Benjamin Moore.
Some closer up shots of the shelf/ birch wood. I ordered the birch branches off eBay since I could not find any locally that were the taller height that I wanted. They actually are from Wisconsin, which made them that much more special to me! I wanted something taller since the ceilings are 9ft. tall, and something smaller might have looked squatty, I think!
This link shows the Menards project page for the planks we used. They are 8ft L x 5" W x 0.5" Thick. They sit perfectly on our small baseboards, which is another reason why I love them! https://www.menards.com/main/paint/paneling-planking/planking/prefinished-planking/pre-finished-planking-white-1-2d-x-5-1-8w-x-8l/p-1786942-c-8185.htm?tid=6791017722071655231
For this project we had to cut the 8ft boards down to 3ft sections using a jig saw. To attach them to the wall we used small brad nails that were long enough to go through the wall and the board, but with a small enough head to be concealed by the boards. They have instructional pamphlets next to the planks at the store which explain how to hammer the nails at an angle into the 'tongue' part of the board so the next board 'groove' will sit on top and hide the nail heads. This was definitely easier than expected which we loved!
"Decorate Purposefully, DIY Frugally" is my motto for helping turn our newly constructed house into a home. This is where I document the home projects my fiance and I are tackling along with our fur-baby bulldog!
